Secrets To Quit Smoking And Kick Your Habit

Smoking is a smelly, expensive and harmful habit. Not only does smoking endanger your life, but it also endangers the lives of the people you love.

Quit smoking to live a healthier life and spend more time with the people you love. Follow the great advice in the following article for ideas on how to quit smoking.

If you’re trying to quit smoking, try chewing gum instead. Often times when you try to leave a bad habit behind, you must replace it with a more positive one. Chewing gum allows you to use your mouth and jaw in some of the same ways that smoking does. It is a healthy way to keep yourself busy while you’re working toward quitting.

Put aside the money you would have normally spent on cigarettes, and save it for something that you really want, like a new outfit, some nice furniture, or a weekend away. Not only will you be feeling healthier, but you’ll soon see how much money you can save now that you’re not smoking.

You should treat quitting smoking day-by-day. Quitting can be a long process. Do not worry about how you are going to cope until next month, or the year after. Today is all you should be worrying about, so make sure you’re not smoking right now and your todays will start adding up to forever.

Write down the reasons why you want to quit smoking. Post the list someplace where you’ll see it every day, to help keep you motivated. Include not only the reasons that directly benefit you, but also the reasons that quitting will benefit your friends and family. Being able to read your list every day will remind you of why you stopped smoking in the first place.

Be open and let people know about your goal to quit smoking. They can help support you in your choice. This could be the nudge in the right direction you need to quit smoking.

Find another way to relax. Nicotine is a relaxant, so you need to find a substitute to lessen your stress. A massage or yoga is a really great way of relaxing, or you could try a warm bath, or listening to your favorite music. Whenever possible, try to stay away from anything stressful during the initial couple of weeks when you stop smoking.

Remember that false starts are common when people try to quit smoking. Even if you’ve tried and failed to quit before, you should always keep trying. Ultimately, any reduction in your smoking habit is good for you, so as long as you are trying to quit you are improving your life and health.

A strong and positive mental attitude can go a long way in helping you to quit smoking. Think positively about how your life is going to be so much better once you quit smoking. Your teeth will look whiter, your clothes will no longer smell like smoke, and your breath will make you far more kissable. While the negative impact of smoking should never be ignored, the positive side to quitting is often an excellent bit of motivation.

Don’t allow yourself “just one puff”. The mind can sometimes play tricks on you, especially when you’re trying to give up a habit that you have had for years. Don’t allow yourself to give in to the idea that just one cigarette won’t hurt. It will hurt, and it might just keep you from being able to quit at all.

Consider any therapy that can replace nicotine. Smoking itself is kind of disgusting and easy to give up, but the nicotine withdrawal usually proves the nail in the coffin of a quit attempt. Do whatever you can to deal with the withdrawal, from medicine prescriptions to alternatives like the patch, gum or even throat lozenges.

Plan ahead for how you will handle stressful events that might arise. Most people who smoke will light up when they’re stressed out. If you’ve laid out a plan, it is easier to stay away from cigarettes. Having multiple plans in place is ideal, in case one plan does not work out.

If you have already attempted to quit and have not been successful, do not feel discouraged. Most people quit several times before quitting successfully. Look back and find out what went wrong to learn from your mistakes when you try again. You may find victory in a future effort down the road.

Throw away your cigarettes and lighters. This will make it impossible to smoke unless you leave the house. It serves to remind you how much of a hassle it is to smoke and leaves you without any. When you do this, keep yourself busy with other activities so you don’t think about smoking.

As stated in the introduction, smoking is a terrible habit that makes you smell bad, costs lots of money and is harmful to your health.

Use the advice in the article above for ways to make quitting smoking easier on you so you can live a freer, healthier life.
